01
Our history
Our story starts with cloth, not gold.
Gokulchand Hirachand Rathod left for Mumbai in 1960. His first year at a jewellery showroom, Sagarmal Jewellers, paid him nothing — only food and a place to sleep. Then fifty rupees a month. He stayed two or three years more, and what he carried back wasn't a trade so much as a lesson: how hard a customer's trust is to earn, and how fast it's lost.
By the mid-1960s he was in Surat, and jewellery would have to wait. He started a cloth trading business, Vijay Trading Company, in 1965. In 1967, when the Surat Textile Market opened — the city's first cloth market — he bought a shop there and moved the company in. His son Gautam Gokulchand Rathod heads that company today.

Jewellery was always the real plan. Gokulchand had the trade already, from his year at Sagarmal — cloth trading was simply how he raised the money for it. Once there was enough, Gold Point Jewellers opened, in 1995.
02
Lineage
His son, Bhavesh Gokulchand Rathod, ran the new store. He'd spent his last two college years, 1993 to 1995, working at a jewellery business at his father's asking, not his own — jewellery wasn't where his interest lay yet, but the family's next venture needed someone who understood it.
Gold Point opened on the trust Vijay Trading had already built in Surat, and on one promise: weight and purity, guaranteed. That meant something specific at the time. Most "22 karat" gold sold in India then wasn't 22 karat at all — it was KDM, an alloy closer to 20 karat, priced as if it were 22. Plenty of jewellers selling "20 karat" were really closer to 18 or 19.
Gold Point sold 21 karat gold, and said so.

That promise is what has stayed constant: unique design, with weight and purity guaranteed.

Our work
Every design is meant to stand apart. We present our work in four collections, each shot the way the pieces are meant to be seen.
- Worn Designer and statement pieces, photographed as they are worn.
- Heirloom Polki and heritage jewellery for weddings and the occasions that become memories.
- Colour Ruby, emerald, sapphire and amethyst jewellery, set against light.
- Ivory Open-setting polki, in soft light.
Our own kaarigars make jewellery to order, usually in 20 to 25 days: bespoke pieces, polki and heritage work, and statement designs. We also redesign family pieces, and alongside, we curate the best ready designs.
We'd rather make a piece you'll actually wear than one that's easy to sell.
That's the aim today: finishing and designs you haven't seen elsewhere, not just more of what's already out there.
