Ravi Pushya Nakshatra and why jewellery is chosen on this day
What Ravi Pushya Nakshatra is, why it is traditionally considered auspicious for buying jewellery, and the dates this season, 1 and 29 November 2026.

In short
- Ravi Pushya is the Pushya Nakshatra falling on a Sunday.
- Tradition holds it among the most auspicious times to begin something lasting, including buying jewellery.
- This season it falls on Sunday 1 November and Sunday 29 November 2026.
Each year, a few days stand out in the Hindu calendar as good for buying jewellery. Ravi Pushya is one of them. Here is what it means, in plain terms.
What the name means
The sky is divided into 27 nakshatras, or lunar mansions. Pushya is the eighth, and it is associated in tradition with nourishment, growth and care. Ravi means Sunday, the day of the Sun.
When the Pushya Nakshatra is in effect on a Sunday, the combination is called Ravi Pushya (also written Ravi Pushya Yoga). It is considered rare, because Pushya falls on a Sunday only a few times a year.
Why it is considered auspicious
Pushya is traditionally treated as a nakshatra that supports lasting things. Its ruling planet is Saturn, and its deity is Brihaspati, the teacher of the gods. Combined with the Sun's day, it is believed to suit new beginnings, and the purchase of gold and jewellery is among the most common.
The idea behind it is simple. A piece bought on such a day is meant to be kept, worn and passed on, and people like to begin that story on a day they feel good about. This is tradition and belief, held by many families and not a promise of any result, and some households do not follow it at all.
The dates this season
| Date | Day | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 November 2026 | Sunday | Pushya runs through most of the day, until early Monday morning |
| 29 November 2026 | Sunday | Pushya applies for the morning on this date |
Exact start and end times differ by city and by almanac. Please check the panchang your family follows for Surat before you plan around a particular hour.
